Minimum Qualifications

Acceptable Experience and Education
High School Diploma or equivalent, with four (4) years’ experience in a construction related field preferably in concrete construction, or pavement experience; including the use of tools/equipment used in concrete construction;

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Typical Duties
Essential Duties
Removes broken concrete; ensures concrete forms are set into position for pouring concrete; ensures appropriate concrete depth is attained.

Pours concrete; finishes surfaces of fresh concrete on roads, walkways, curb/gutter and other construction areas; ensures specific grade and contour is in compliance with County standard specifications and plans.

Strips forms; back fills open areas; replaces disturbed landscaping; performs general clean-up.

Oversees the work of crew members performing concrete work.

Digs and fills holes; patches cuts and holes in streets.

Conducts repairs on storm drain inlets.

Conducts minor maintenance repairs of concrete around County buildings and facilities.

May serve as relief truck driver and/or equipment operator, or road/maintenance work;

Substitutes, if assigned, for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;

Attends and participates in meetings, training and information sessions;

Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field;

Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and

Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Other Important Duties
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

May need to respond to emergency situations after normal working hours;

Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment;

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.

Job Summary
The Concrete Finisher, under close and frequent supervision, performs the pouring and finishing of concrete on roads, curbs/gutter and sidewalks. The incumbent supports other assignments relating to the maintenance of County roads, bridges, parks and right-of-ways and performs related work as required.

Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: Procedures of compaction; traffic control and safety procedures; the principles and practices of effective customer service principles, operation and servicing of trucks, light tractors and related automotive equipment; knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation; materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of roads; the English language; principles and methods for the transportation of people or material.

Ability/Skill in: Operating backhoe, jackhammer, tamper, concrete and wood saws, shovel, pick, sledge hammer, etc. in order to complete necessary concrete work; set grade stakes; check grade cuts and fills; calculate material quantities, grade, slope and drainage; operate power/hand tools and equipment; understand and follow quick and accurately, oral and written instructions; ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor under any kind of weather conditions; operate trucks and light tractors and related automotive equipment; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and superiors; Pass a Criminal Background Investigation;
