Minimum Qualifications
Acceptable Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Forensic Science, Digital Forensics, Computer Science or related field from an accredited university or college with (2) years’ experience in digital forensics and (2) two years analytical experience.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.

Must be able to obtain TCIC/NCIC less than full access withing six (6) months of hire.

Essential Duties

Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accurate and meticulous documentation of findings and procedures.

Gathers crime trend information through departmental reports and law enforcement databases, maintains files on suspects and known offenders identified through analysis; collects and verifies intelligence from various sources (consistent with state and federal laws); prepares and disseminates summaries of crime trends, methods, and incidents which have been analyzed for information and investigation.

Collaborates and queries federal, state, local and commercial databases to provide a service product to narcotics enforcement agents/officers;

Conduct detailed forensic examinations and analyses of computers, hard drives, mobile devices, and digital media and/or Conduct thorough digital forensic examinations of various electronic devices, including computers, smartphones, tablets, and storage media, to identify and extract evidence

Recover deleted files, retrieve overt, hidden, and encrypted files, and provide technical support for ongoing criminal investigations.

The quality and competence of the Digital Forensics Analyst examinations and final analysis will often be the deciding factor in state and federal cases, determining whether the suspect(s) will be convicted and/or sentenced.

Create detailed reports for use by detectives, special agents, and prosecutors for use in criminal cases in court of law. These reports are often highly technical, detailed, and lengthy documents.

Serves as subject matter expert on technical matters relating to digital evidence and testify in court or at hearings as an expert witness in digital forensics.

Provide on-scene forensic review of evidence as required.

Provide expert testimony on forensic methods, media analysis, internet capabilities, social medica, and e-mail.

Researches and responds to internal and external information requests;

Collaborates and queries federal, state, local and commercial databases to provide a service product to narcotics enforcement agents/officers;

Analyzes reports and other output required to perform the duties for the department;

Utilizes data software processing systems for a more analysis of data sets;

Process digital evidence for murder cases and sexual assault
Manage multiple project (cases) and possess critical thinking abilities

View and organize difficult-to-view images of exploited children and various victims

Performs advanced analysis of digital forensics data in support of investigations.
Performs advanced analysis of digital forensics data in support of criminal prosecutions.

Updates and maintain a reporting system related to digital forensics examinations.

Conducts extractions of digital evidence from any digital source provided by law enforcement which may require advanced techniques.

Utilizes a variety of advanced extraction and analytical products.

Attends and participates in unit, departmental, and professional meetings.

May testify in court as an expert witness and handle sensitive evidence while maintaining its integrity and documenting the chain of custody.

Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive materials in accordance with legal requirements and company policies.

Provides quality written and verbal reports to narcotics enforcement agents;

Ensures data results are properly captured on retention and retrieval system and archived for legal and security purposes; prepares archived reports as needed;

Trains functional users in the capabilities of their systems, assisting and familiarizing them with issues and problems in their related systems;

Attends training and conferences related to these job duties to enhance knowledge and expertise in these areas.

Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field; Works effectively with a team to produce positive, professional outcomes;

Job Summary
Summary of Position
Works with law enforcement personnel conducting investigative research. Incumbents are responsible for extracting, gathering, analyzing, and investigating digital data and computer evidence from an array of electronic storage devices. Prepare digital evidence that can be used in any court proceedings, trials, and criminal investigations for law enforcement agencies. This role requires a high level of sensitivity due to the nature of the work involved. The nature of this role also involves exposure to illicit materials and graphic content related to child exploitation. It is crucial for applicants to be mentally prepared and committed to handling such content in a professional and ethical manner.

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services.
