Summary
Performs para-professional engineering design, field staking and project management for reactive and planned distribution projects under general supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Design & prepare technical drawings for overhead, underground and street light facility construction;
  • Perform field work including surveying, layout staking and inspection;
  • Interact/communicate with stakeholders including members of the public, customers, contractors, consultants, developers and LP&L/COL staff;
  • Resolve conflicts, develop design solutions and manage multiple medium scale distribution projects;
  • Prepare cost estimates, submit invoicing information for utility cost recovery fees;
  • Analyze customer needs and perform calculations to determine required sizes and types of various electrical equipment and components;
  • Provide material lists for each project and forecast material needs for upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate with COL Warehouse and LP&L Procurement to ensure required materials are available;
  • Coordinate with COL and TXDOT to acquire permits where required;
  • Provide budget and manage capital improvement project expenditures;
  • Upon completion of new construction projects, ensure data is accurately updated in GIS database;
  • Attend weekly COL site review meetings as needed;
  • Attend meetings as needed with customers and project representatives;
  • Respond to emergency call-out as needed during system restoration;
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints regarding projects;
  • Perform related duties as required;

Qualifications

Completion of an associate’s degree in engineering or related field, with an additional five years of technical engineering, electric utility project management or electric utility construction experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge and abilities:

Certified Associate in Project Management, (CAPM) Preferred

Texas Drivers License Required

Physical Exam Required

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of electric distribution utility design and construction;
  • Mathematical calculations for sizing of electrical equipment.

Ability to:

  • Work effectively under pressure.
  • Operate a computer using Microsoft suite products, GIS design software & survey equipment;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written;
  • Effectively work with co-workers, public and other departments;
  • Quickly adapt to fast paced, dynamic schedule;
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stand and walk during shift;
  • Occasionally climb stairs, ladders and inclined surfaces;
  • Frequently bend and kneel during shift;
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Frequently push and pull objects;
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
  • Place arms above, at or below shoulder height;
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
