Bachelor’s Degree or higher with at least 30 semester hours of basic or applied science.
Licenses and Certificates: Texas Sanitarian Registration by time of appointment. Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state.
General Purpose
Under general supervision, lead and perform consumer and environmental health and activities and conduct, coordinate and monitor highly complex regulatory procedures, data analyses, inspections, investigations, projects and sampling to ensure compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Typical Duties
Inspect, investigate, enforce and document public health and compliance violations. Involves: Perform and provide reviews, recommendations and reports concerning complex permit applications and associated inspections, investigations, data, calculations, evaluations, reports and compliance. Conduct, monitor and supervise highly technical environmental health investigations, sampling, monitoring data analyses and calculations to ensure compliance with applicable local/state/federal laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Develop, review and update program protocols and maintain current files related to activities. Function as a technical resource for program liaison and coordination with community, business, environmental, industry, professional and governmental entities. Develop schedules, conduct and monitor presentations concerning consumer and environmental health issues and enforcement activities.
Investigate consumer and environmental health violations. Involves: Interpret data, policies, procedures, rules, regulations and statutes for applicability to the process. Investigate complaints and alleged violations of air quality standards and statutes. Supervise and administer assigned resources, projects and activities; functions as senior staff resource for administrative, supervisory and technical activities; and services as program supervisor in absence of the Program Manager. Assists in development, analysis, and implementation of work standards and procedures. Develop, schedule, conduct and monitor in-service training programs to maintain staff proficiency and compliance with mandatory training requirements. Prepare responses to routine/special requests and inquiries from customers, groups and agencies concerning program activities, policies and procedures.
Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
