SHERIFF’S OFFICE- INTELLIGENCE ANALYST

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent with five (5) years of law enforcement experience, three (3) in the narcotics field to include two (2) years analytical experience with a narcotics investigative background preferred.

Computer literate with the capabilities to learn to query and search various databases to be able to create a work product that will support investigators or first-line responders. An understanding of database regulations and usage to include federal, state, local, and commercial systems.

Ability to read and comprehend large data streams, analyze the data, and then capsulize the information into intelligence products to inform first-line responders, investigative personnel, or supervisory and executive level personnel on various items of interest.

Good communication and writing skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with the ISC customers in the various federal, state, and local agencies.

Ability to obtain necessary security clearances as required.
Typical Duties

  • Gathers crime trend information, prepares and disseminates summaries of crime trends, methods, and incidents.
  • Analyzes the researched information to provide a quality work product.
  • Conducts statistical analysis, detects crime series/patterns, forecasts crime trends, and identifies suspect/crime relationships.
  • Interprets departmental reports and law enforcement databases.
  • Researches and massages intelligence information and state, federal, local and commercial database information to create target packages for investigative personnel.
  • Coordinates investigations with operational personnel and supports cases as needed.
  • Assists in developing cases for prosecution.
  • Collects and verifies intelligence from various sources (consistent with state and federal laws).
  • Uses federal, state, local and commercial Law Enforcement databases.
  • Gathers intelligence, creates target packages, and provides analytical case support, within applicable rules and laws governing their use.
  • Queries federal, state, local and commercial databases to provide a service product to enforcement agents/officers.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with area law enforcement agencies to create a network that is conducive to information sharing.
  • Maintains security of information obtained from law enforcement database sources.
  • Imports/exports data between various types of programs in order to properly perform the analytical functions.
  • Provides quality written and verbal reports to enforcement agents.
  • Assist in compiling threat assessments, organizational charts and databases and other analytical products.
  • Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.
  • Prepares, submits and disseminates intelligence reports in a timely basis.

Job Summary
The Intelligence Analyst works under general supervision of the Director of the Investigative Support Center, gathers crime trend information, prepares and disseminates summaries of crime trends, methods, and incidents which have been analyzed for information and investigation. The incumbent conducts statistical analysis, detects crime series/patterns, forecasts crime trends, and identifies suspect/crime relationships.
