JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Streets Foreman, Streets-Crew Leader operates a variety of heavy equipment in the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, roads, alleys, water and sewer lines, drainage facilities and hauling solid waste and construction materials. Participates in general maintenance and labor activities as necessary for timely completion of projects and/or work orders.

SUPERVISION

RECEIVES direct supervision from the Streets Foreman.

EXERCISES supervision of work crew.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Heavy Equipment Operations

  • Operate a variety of heavy construction and maintenance equipment including but not limited to motor grader, loader, mower, tractor, trencher, and backhoe.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in street landscape maintenance and facilities maintenance work.
  • Organize tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • May be required to remove debris, fallen trees and limbs; replace street signs during or after hazardous weather or other emergencies.

2. Safety/Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and tools used to ensure they are in safe operating order.
  • Perform routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned making minor repairs and adjustments for safety reasons.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.

3. Concrete Work

  • Use concrete cutting and breaking equipment.
  • Pour and finish concrete.
  • Construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry.

4. Other Duties

  • May be required to assist in the setup, teardown, and cleanup for special events and meetings.
  • May occasionally be required to work on-call, evenings, or weekends.
  • Assist in other departmental operations when needed.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in heavy equipment operation and construction experience; or a combination of education and experience.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class A CDL.
  • May be required to obtain certification or licensure specific to area of assignment after date of employment at the City’s expense
